Music may be the answer
Music moves us all. Babies in the mothers womb respond to music we now know. But the way music moves the elederly that suffer from Alzheimers disease is very touching. What would happen if we expose them to music, or even better innerdance, on a regular basis I wonder?
A friend of mine, Jonanthan Shamir, shared the following message:

It made me remember a documentary I watched some years ago, Alive inside, on Netflix. If its still there, or you can find it somewhere else, i highly recommend it.
Title: The Mirror is What Would Then Be Looking At You
The Mu Wave is considered essential study for the innerdance process for various reasons.
This brain wave primarily has deep inter-relations with our body’s movements. When Mu Waves become active, they take place in the areas of the brain that controls physical motion.
Mu Waves oscillate at around the same range as Alpha Waves. The difference between them though, is that alpha waves occur around the visual cortex found at the back of the scalp, whilst the Mu Wave occurs above the motor cortex in a band approximately spanning one ear to the other.
Ironically, we supposedly desynchronize (and suppress) Mu Wave patterns whenever we either move our bodies, or even when we are visualizing ourselves performing a motor action. The Mu Wave is similarly suppressed when a person is observing another person moving their body.
What does this mean, particularly in relation to innerdance?
Whenever a person or an animal acts or moves their body, or even simply observes another person or animal actively moving, they fire Mirror Neurons, a large grouping of neurons in various parts of the brain that grants our physical mind its capacities to learn, remember and understand others through empathy.
In many ways, those empaths who feel the emotions of other people may fire their Mirror Neurons a lot more than those who are less sensitive to others.
There has yet been very significant study into the Mirror Neuron, a recent discovery initially noticed by scientists in monkeys. The importance of the Mirror Neuron is territory largely uncharted; despite this, it has been regarded as compelling study for many scientists that realize that the interconnected brain functions of the Mirror Neuron and the Mu Wave hold secrets to understanding how we think what we think and why we move the way we move.
My own understanding of the innerdance finds these significant in understanding why the body moves the way it does, during the innerdance phenomenon. Let me tell outline the why.
For this, we would have to talk about the Low-Latent Inhibitory instance called Autism.
To date, there is no single identified causality for autism, but the few studies related to the mirror neuron and mu wave has identified a clear association in understanding autism’s differentiation with normative awareness.
When I was in Nepal, I was invited by the country’s amazingly progressive Autism school in Kathmandu to talk about innerdance in relation to autism in general. At first, the parents and teachers thought that I would give a talk on how autism could be healed. Instead, I opened my workshop with the invitation to parents and teachers: “would you like to experience the inner space the children inhabit?”
The adults were awed at the opportunity. They jumped at the chance, and the experience was profound. There was much resonance as to the many insights shared by the group in a dialogue that shifted the way families might understand what sometimes looks like a disorder, but is obviously a highly-functioning meta-lingual mind.
The work co-relating the Mirror Neuron and Autism is a gentle affirmation on innerdance’s work in unraveling low-latent inhibition as a gateway to mapping out our mind’s untapped genius. In many ways, the innerdance actually brings normal minds into a similar expression and experience as the autistic mind's hyper-primed Semantic activations, which bears similar characteristics with that of epilepsy, another condition understood traditionally as a kundalini process (electricity bursts throughout the nervous system) and yet separately, also associated with the study of the mirror neuron and the mu wave.
Backtracking, people observed through fMRI scans suppress the Mu Wave when they are moving or their bodies or are watching others move. Children with Autism do not seem to experience the same Mu Wave-suppression during motor action. The Mu Wave oscillations of Autistic kids do not desynchronize when they watch other people move their bodies, which seem to suggest that this may be a cause for the deficits Autistic children have in their ability to function socially or to communicate with others.
The innerdance introduces Mu Wave activations in tune with the spontaneous movements that synchronise with the circadian patterns in the playlist.
I have repeated in many ways how innerdance's role is to bring about a simultaneous desensitization of triggers and a sensitization of empathic awareness that take place alongside the spontaneous movement, emotional release and visual imagery that happens during the healing process. This lends coherence to the proposal that the music patterns we use during the workshops spreads activation throughout one’s Semantic, Iconic and Echoic Networks, through the active (non-suppressive) firing of Mirror Neurons and Mu Waves that has the ability to lower latent inhibition and increase the synaptic connections that happen when the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems are simultaneously active.
The Mirroring and Self-Reflexivity within the Life Review process that takes place during the Near Death Experience paints the same self-recognition that happens in innerdance.
The Life Review reverses the Narcissistic and Echoic methods in which ego localises its projected awareness unto its self-images. If we initially become our identifications through the Mirror Neuron’s capacity to empathize, imitate (and thus learn) from others through repetitive motor actions (or the observation of others moving in repetitive patterns), the heightened state of Reflexivity is the healing that takes place through one's ability to recognize itself through the Looking Glass we call Reality. The Life Review, which is a normal occurrence during the innerdance process, is a meta-cognitive event whereby the self and its own image reflect upon each other, in detachment from the heavy emotions, fear and resistance that holds our neurotic and inauthentic tendencies at bay.
In tying these together, our work as healers is simply to mirror what others are unable to look at, particularly those divine aspects of self unheard and unseen in childhood, when emotional intelligence was at its peak and so much information was being absorbed from what it mirrored in the way others act or do not act.
Healing happens when we are seen for Who We Are. The innerdance creates the conditions where this Seeing takes place from an inward and independent place. We create Affordances whereby people See Themselves as They Truly Are. We as agents of transformation, seek for the most objective ways to See Them, that They May See Themselves, outside of the need for external validation and dependent affirmation from others.
